A little camera fun

When I was on vacation my 50mm lens broke. It dawned on me a couple days ago that I stopped taking pictures after vacation and it was because I didn't have a good portable lens. As soon as I realized it I immediately purchased a new lens and even splurged on the f1.4 because having a little extra depth is fun.

I was hoping to have my new lens in time for Erik's birthday party today, but wishful thinking since I had to leave the house at 10 am. Luckily when we got home at 2 pm it was at my doorstep waiting. My friend Alicia and her two kids, and my mom hung out at my house after the party and became the victims of my new purchase. So here are a few images I snapped at f1.4 because I have to try it out and see how I can control this shallower depth of field. I'll get it, but this his a new depth for me right now.

Dylan was my best candidate since he stays relatively still these days.

I did take some pictures that were not f1.4 just because we were in the moment and having fun. Here are a few of my favorites.

Here are some pictures, because the reason I bought this lens is so I could capture the everyday experiences. Today it was playing bikes in the front yard with Audrey and she was driving her very first car and having a ton of fun with it. Oh and I had to document that Elliot can now ride a bike all by himself now.

About Heather

My photo
I am a Los Angles based photographer and mom of 2 wonderful boys. Photography has been a passion of mine over 15 years now, ever since I picked up my first camera in journalism school and started developing my black and whites in a darkroom. The instant an affordable DSLR came out on the market in 2002, I had to have one and have been shooting digital since. Once I became a mom I realized how much I enjoy photographing children and how much better I could understand their nuances so it became a passion of mine. Their is such innocence and beauty in their pictures and I feel privileged to be a part of that. I am constantly trying new approaches and tuning my skills to create the art that is in my head, not just the art that I can create right now. I am very interested in off camera flash, and the depth and clarity it adds to my photographs. Sometimes I take breaks from my blog and photography, but it seems to never leave me completely. I always come back.
