First before I go any further, I have to post this picture for Carl. I must admit that I like the Cubs, but also like the Giants and honestly since I have had kids, what little interest I have in sports is minimized. So for my dear husband I say, go Cubbies. We're rooting for you here in Cali and just hoping for the best.
This morning Erik was too sick to go to school but I decided to keep my sitter and spend a little time with myself. My first stop was to the doctors with Elliot because after Erik's asthma scare and the discovery of an ear infection I was paranoid that Elliot had one too and took him to the doctor just in case; he was fine. Afterward I got a much needed breather and an even more needed pedicure. I decided to go all out because it had been four months since my last one and I plan on keeping it through Hawaii. The boys got a kick out of the flowers.
After one of the easiest nap routines this week and some more time to just relax, I have been over stressed this week and just needed to chill for a bit Erik finally woke up. I had decided since his breathing seemed normalized and he just had the hacking cough and not even a runny nose that water on a 100 degree day would be fine. I guess I was totally right on that one. Erik headed outside about 30 minutes after he woke up from his nap and only came back in for bath and bed.
As always I started with the water table. Erik played with it for 3 minutes until I suggested the sprinkler and ran up to get my camera. Not sure why it was ignored today, just not a day for the water table I guess.
Then I let Erik put the sprayer on the hose and that is where the fun began. He made a pool of gross water in his playhouse and had the best time. I try to ignore all the dirt and cobwebs and pretend like it was fresh. It wasn't going to hurt them anyway.
I love a good old fashion sprinkler and since Carl has the sprinklers in our backyard turned off and the grass is dying I didn't mind it going on extra long today I just kept moving it to different spots to get different parts of the grass.
It is fun watching my two boys approach the sprinkler. Erik is older and more daring. I suggested he try jumping over the sprinkler and the pictures are hilarious. Erik didn't learn how to jump until he was almost 3 and unfortunately he inherited his jumping abilities from me and can't do it at all, but he gives it all he can.
Elliot on the other hand is approaching two in a couple weeks and is much more timid in his approach. He has to watch his brother before making a move and even then he got worried because he was wet. Eventually he got it and I spotted him playing the "oh noooo" Mater game with the sprinkler, but he was definitely slow to warm today.
Just a couple more thoughts. A game of playing in the water always turns into a game of cars at our house. I absolutely love this picture of both boys checking out their homemade car ramp.
My favorite part of summer, or our fake summer, are meals outside. We have eaten lunch everyday out there for a few days now and today I decided a no mess dinner outside sounded fantastic. Looking forward to when "real" summer finally comes our way.
